Biography

Kevin Akiyama is presently attending the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA pursuing his PsyD in Clinical Psychology. He is born and raised on O’ahu (Hawaiian Islands) and is the first generation in his family to attend college. Prior to the Wright Institute, Kevin served in the Peace Corps (Bulgaria) focusing on racial inequity and integration; worked in adolescent residential treatment; administered federal grants serving low SES minority populations; worked as a tenured middle school and college counselor; and, as of most recent, conducted outreach for a Native Hawaiian serving program. Research interests include identify formation of adopted non-native people identifying “home” within an indigenous culture; and family dynamic patterns post-colonization amongst indigenous peoples.
