Biography
Since 2008, I have been providing individual counseling to first responders and their families. My subspecialty within the fire, dispatcher, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and law enforcement population involves calls for service when a child dies. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat Emergency Responder Exhaustion and Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms. My dynamic therapy style is educational, humorous, and direct.
I have served on the board of directors for the San Mateo Critical Incident Stress Management (SM CISM) team from 2009-2023 and the Fire Service Psychology Association (FSPA) since 2018. I have volunteered at the First Responder Support Network (FRSN) and provided EMDR at the West Coast Post-trauma Retreat (WCPR) since 2007.
I have spoken to peer support teams, Employee Assistance Program professionals, Psychiatry Grand Rounds at Highland Hospital in Oakland, psychologists, law enforcement and mixed discipline audiences since 2009. Training topics include The combination of alcohol and critical incidents, Self-Care for Peer Support Team, The “F Word” in Peer Support: Talking to your Colleagues about Fear, The Tower of Mental Health, Working with Firefighters, and Treating Emergency Responders among others.
